Suspected of flying drunk after flying drones in Rättvik – later acquitted

The police in the Bergslagen region discovered a man flying a drone in Rättvik on Wednesday evening. The man was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.

This meant that the police suspected him of having committed drunk driving. The police write that according to the Aviation Act, the same rules apply when driving a drone as if driving another vehicle. For flying drones, the limit is the same as for driving, and the penalty for committing a crime is the same.

The police patrol took the driver of the drone for sampling. Later in the evening, the police stated that the man had been drinking alcohol, but in a breath test he was below the punishable level of alcohol in his breath. Thus, he is not suspected of a crime.
