Suspected of 14 murders – she could become one of Thailand’s worst serial killers

The case has attracted a lot of attention in Thailand, not least because it involves serial murders using cyanide. The poison must be very difficult to obtain in the country.

A survivor

The 36-year-old woman was initially arrested for nine suspicious deaths that allegedly took place over several years. During the police investigation, however, the suspicions were increased to 14 cases.

Only one person – the 15th intended victim – survived the assassination attempt, says Deputy National Police Chief Surachate Hakpar during a press conference:

– The victim managed to get out of her car but once she got into an ambulance she lost consciousness and her heart stopped beating. Technically she was dead, but luckily the doctor managed to revive her at the hospital.

Money an underlying motive

According to the police, the suspected woman had defrauded the victims of nearly one million kroner. It was when the people demanded their money back that she got married.

The arrested woman was previously married to a senior police officer and he too now faces charges of fraud, corruption and embezzlement related to the murders. Both deny the allegations.

The woman, who is also four months pregnant, is now charged with 14 counts of premeditated murder and one attempted murder. At the same time, the police are investigating three more potential cases.

If convicted of the murders, she will go down in history as one of Thailand’s worst serial killers in modern times.
