The police searched a house in Öster Mälarstrand in Västerås on Saturday morning after a suspected dangerous object was found in a gate.
– Evacuation and accommodation are underway at the site. National bomb protection is contacted and on the way. We are working hard, says police spokesperson Magnus Jansson Klarin.
The apartment building closest to the suspicious object has been evacuated and the police are searching the building to see that no one is still inside. Nearby houses will be evacuated or housed.
Looks like a live grenade
The object is judged to be sharp. According to the police, the suspect object was not hidden or packaged in any way, but the suspected hand grenade was just laid out.
A passerby contacted the police about the object.
The area has been cordoned off.
Shooting in the same area
About a hundred meters from the house where the suspicious object was found, there was a shooting during the night. At 04:00, the police received a call about gunshots from several callers, and when they arrived in Öster Mälarstrand they found bullet holes in a gate.
– Whether there are connections is a bit early to say. We have neither suspects nor plaintiffs there, says Jansson Klarin.
No one was injured in that incident.
