Suspected dangerous object at Landvetter – airport evacuated

A large police operation is underway at Landvetter Airport in Gothenburg late on Saturday evening after a suspected dangerous object was found in the security check by the staff.

Parts of the airport have had to be evacuated, says Swedavia.

– The incident has been going on since 22.30 and is still going on, says Frida Jones, press communicator at Swedavia.

The police were called to investigate the object and parts of the airport are cordoned off for security reasons.

As the object is still not secured, the police do not yet want to go into any details about the object.

Two people visited

According to the police, two people have been checked in connection with the find.

– They have been searched but have not been arrested, says Hans-Jörgen Ostler at the police.

There is no criminal classification yet.

– We are in a wait-and-see situation. The item must be examined by specialists so that we do not expose the staff to any danger.

Travelers are directed to alternative exits

According to Swedavia, the effort has no major impact on air traffic.

– Arriving travelers are affected in such a way that they are directed to alternative exits, so it may take a little longer to get there, says Frida Jones.

The police do not have a clear forecast for when the closures may be lifted.

– The airport remains cordoned off as long as we judge that there is a security risk at the site, and it depends entirely on what kind of object is found, says Hans-Jörgen Ostler at the police.
