A suspected dangerous object has been found in a bag at Arlanda Airport north of Stockholm, according to the police. There is no danger to the public.

– This does not affect other travelers but only the person who had the item in their bag. It is a person who would travel away that we are now talking to, says Anna Westberg, press spokesperson at the police to TT.

The item was discovered at security at 1:30 p.m., and the person who owns the bag is being held by the police. The bag has been moved to a small room, according to the police, and it should not be dangerous to the public.

– There is currently an impact on a smaller area in terminal 4, there is no impact on air traffic, says Peter Wärring, press officer at Swedavia.

Aftonbladet was the first to report on the incident.

The object must be investigated by the national bomb protection. It is unclear if it is suspected to be explosive.

– It is an object that, upon initial assessment, could not be ruled out as dangerous, says Westberg.

The police cannot answer how common it is for suspected dangerous objects to be found in bags at Arlanda, but say that it is not entirely unusual.

– Most of the time it’s nothing, but we follow our routines and investigate this, says Anna Westberg.
