The alarm about a suspected dangerous object in the parking lot outside Ikea in Örebro came in on Sunday afternoon.
– It concerns an object that we cannot dismiss as harmless, therefore we have decided to block off the entire car park. We cooperate with the national bomb protection. Then we’ll see if they need to come to the scene, says Lars Hedelin, police spokesperson in Örebro.
– Right now it is a frozen area. No one is allowed to enter the car park and those in the department store are not allowed to leave. Possibly they can get out through emergency exits, says Lars Hedelin.
Ikea confirms
Ikea confirms that customers can exit via other exits.
– The police have blocked off and that includes entry and exit. We were asked to inform customers about using the side doors and we are helping with that right now. Customers who have parked their cars within the cordon cannot reach them, but those who have not can reach their cars, says Sandra Jakob, press contact at Ikea Sweden.
Alarm from the public
According to Expressen, a man is said to have been seen throwing a bag under a car. This is not something that the police can confirm for TV4 Nyheterna.
– We have looked at the object and given information to bomb protection. I can’t say exactly what kind of object it is, says Lars Hedelin.
The alert about the suspicious object came through calls from the public.
– They thought it was from the outside that it was strange behaviour, for someone to put down an object in that way, says Hedelin.
