Suitcases holding 100 bricks of suspected cocaine were allegedly discovered in a transportation truck June 21 at the Blue Water Bridge, says the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the RCMP.
The agencies said Thursday in a news release a commercial truck arrived at a primary inspection booth at the bridge in Point Edward and was sent for secondary inspection where it is alleged officers found concealed suitcases.
That led to the discovery of the bricks of suspected cocaine weighing 100 kilograms, the agencies said.
The driver of the truck was arrested and transferred to the custody of the RCMP.
Nick Shah, 62, of Toronto has been charged with importing cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
“This successful investigation is another great example of how partnerships protect our communities across Canada,” Michael Duheme, deputy commissioner of federal policing for the RCMP, said in a news release.
“Working together, the RCMP federal police and the CBSA have once again removed harmful drugs from our neighbourhoods, protecting innocent Canadians and ensuring the safety of Canada’s borders,” he said.
