At least two of the buses were parked in a bus depot in the suburb Bat Yam, south of Tel Aviv. Both buses were empty and no personal injury has been reported in connection with the explosion, writes the newspaper Haaretz
A third bus exploded shortly thereafter in the same suburb. The Times of Israel writes that two more “explosive objects” have been found and harmless.
According to Police Chief Haim Sargarof, these should be five identical explosive objects that he thinks appear to be homemade, reports Times of Israel.
The military has increased its preparedness and Israeli police are urging all bus drivers in the country to inspect their vehicles.
Call to the public
Israeli bomb experts were quickly in place to investigate the area and search for any dangerous objects.
“We urge the public to avoid the area and be vigilant for suspected dangerous objects,” police said according to the Jerusalem Post.
Later in the evening, police reported that four explosive devices were found in buses in Bat Yam and Holon.
Netanyahu gets regular information about the explosions, his staff writes in a statement.
