Two teenage boys were found covered in blood in Sidsjö in Sundsvall on Sunday evening. Both have been treated and operated on for serious injuries since then and sedated – one for almost two days, writes Sundsvall’s newspaper.
The boys are said to have been forced to accompany them into the forest where they were beaten.
– There has been use of both the attachment and weapons, says senior prosecutor Jens Göransson, who leads the investigation, to the newspaper.
Strong evidence base
On Wednesday, the police were able to arrest five men. On Thursday, they were detained and on Friday, detention proceedings began. All are suspected of both attempted murder and kidnapping. The first man was a 20-year-old. The interrogation was held in a separate room together with the police and lawyer.
The prosecutor considers the evidence to be strong, but does not want to go into how the men came into contact with the victims.
– There are people to be heard who have not yet been heard and are at large, and therefore I cannot say much, he says to Sundsvall’s newspaper.
The condition of the boys is said to be stable and both have been able to be questioned.
Convicted of similar crimes
According to the police, there is no danger to the public.
– This is not a random thing that happens, it rarely is if there are five detainees, says Jens Göransson.
Several of the suspects have previously been involved in similar crimes. Two of them were convicted in the district court, together with three others, for luring a man to a basement room in Sundsvall where they abused him with punches, kicks and iron pipes. And burned him with heated metal objects.
The Court of Appeal then reduced the sentence and changed the classifications to assault because the victim’s story was considered incoherent.
Two of the other suspects, a 21-year-old and a 23-year-old, have both previously been convicted of robbery. The 21-year-old was convicted of a robbery in which they overpowered a man and his friend inside an apartment, tied them up, masked them and robbed them.
During the day, four of the five were detained on probable cause on suspicion of assault and kidnapping.
