Suspect turns himself in to police in case of teen

A 15-year-old boy died after being hit by a car on New Year’s Eve. A suspect turned himself in to police Wednesday evening.

A man has surrendered to the authorities, presenting himself as the driver who hit a 15-year-old teenager on New Year’s Eve in Strasbourg. Considered a suspect, he is in police custody for manslaughter with a hit-and-run, according to Latest News from Alsace.

The man is believed to be 19 years old and presented himself at the Strasbourg police station around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday January 1. He is already known to the police for urban violence in 2023.

A gathering in tribute to Rayan Bezzari

The teenager, Rayan Bezzari, was only 15 years old. A gathering is planned for 2 p.m., Thursday January 2, at the Cité de l’Ill, in his memory. The teenager’s cousin, present at the time of the incident, confided in RMC : “He hit it at more than 70 km/h. My cousin fluttered. The driver of the other car didn’t even try to brake. After the impact, he continued to accelerate.” Rayan was traveling on foot and was treated by emergency services, but without success.

In a press release published Wednesday evening, the mayor of Strasbourg, Jeanne Barseghian, expressed her condolences to the young man’s loved ones: “I send my condolences to the loved ones of the young man who died in the night. All light must be shed on the circumstances of this tragedy, and did everything possible to find its author.”
