Suspect released after fatal accident – “According to the rules”

The man who was arrested after a traffic accident in Märsta where an 11-year-old died has been released.
– The prosecutor has made the assessment that there is no reason to detain this person while the investigation progresses, says Johanna Björkman, legal expert.

According to the prosecutor, the man is still suspected of several crimes. Now the investigation continues into, among other things, causing the death of another.

– We have taken a number of investigative measures to get a picture of the course of events. I have now lifted the arrest because there are not sufficient reasons to have him detained while the investigation continues, says senior prosecutor Daniel Suneson.

Johanna Björkman, legal expert, believes that it is “completely according to the rules”.

Suspected gang criminal

According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the arrested driver is a known gang criminal man aged 25. He has long been singled out as a leading figure in the Märsta network and has appeared in a number of investigations into serious crimes. But despite these connections, the prosecutor chooses to let the suspect go free.

– It is simply that the prosecutor makes the assessment based on this particular case and this type of crime, how the risk of recidivism and any impact on the investigation looks like in this case.

In this case, the prosecutor makes the assessment that the suspect does not risk influencing any witnesses.

– The risks are always there. But if it is the case that there is contact around the suspect and that it affects witnesses, then it will become a new police matter.
