World markets have reacted with a shrug after the escalation in the Middle East. Both the Swedish and most of the other European stock exchanges traded upwards on Wednesday. The price of oil has risen slightly, but it is not a matter of any powerful movements.
– I can think that the market takes this uncertainty very lightly. The concerns can lead to disruptions in global value chains, higher shipping prices and can in the long run affect inflation, says Robert Bergqvist, senior economist at SEB.
According to Bergqvist, it could be because the market is fully focused on the US central bank, which is expected to issue an interest rate statement on Wednesday evening.
– There are hopes for an announcement, or signals, about an easier monetary policy. The general picture on the market is positive now and I don’t think people have really taken to heart what is happening in the Middle East, he says.
