The Minister of Migration wants to tighten the subsistence requirement
The Minister of Migration wants to tighten the subsistence requirement
Migration Minister Johan Forssell does not believe that the new investigation’s proposal on livelihood requirements to become a citizen of Sweden goes far enough, he says in Ekot’s Saturday interviewu.
Sweden scrapped the dependency requirement for citizenship in 1976, something the Tidö government now wants to reintroduce.
– What I reacted to is that the supply requirement is so low, lower than, for example, Denmark and several other countries. Seven thousand kroner left after tax, it doesn’t go far enough if you want to become a Swedish citizen, says Forsell.
The Minister of Migration also comments on what it can mean to not have an honest way of life, formerly known as vandalism.
– It could be systematic abuse of the welfare system, collusion with criminal networks or statements that simply challenge basic democratic Swedish values, glorifying terrorism.
– If you are a guest at someone’s place, you make a little extra effort to be tidy, says Forssell.

After the poison alarm – Erikshjälpen stops clothing from Shein
The second-hand chain Erikshjälpen stops selling and accepting clothes from the fast fashion company Shein, reports SVT.
The reason is stated to be that the garments contain too high levels of dangerous chemicals.
– We don’t want to let these clothes circulate further, says Erikshjälpen’s sustainability manager Cathrine Kylesten to the channel.
The Shein clothing already in stores will be sent to textile waste.
In a major review of Shein, Aftonbladet has been able to reveal that Shein breaks its own sustainability promises. The review shows, among other things, that returned clothes are transported long distances, end up in toxic dumping sites in Chile and smuggled to Bolivia.

Colombia begins offensive against guerrilla groups
Colombia is sending its army to quell the bloody fighting between armed rebel groups near the border with Venezuela.
Forces from the two major leftist rebel groups ELN and Farc have been fighting each other in the Catatumbo region of northeastern Colombia, next to the border with Venezuela, for about a week.
– There has already been a first battle between the army and members of the National Liberation Army ELN. The order is to take over the territory, says Colombian Defense Minister Ivan Velasques.
More than 9,000 soldiers are now deployed in the area, where battles over the cocaine trade have raged between rival guerrilla groups for years.
At least 80 people have been killed in the recent fighting and many have been kidnapped. Tens of thousands of people have been forced to flee, according to government and UN estimates.

The EU’s top military commander wants to put troops in Greenland
US President Donald Trump has recently shown interest in taking over the Danish island of Greenland. Something that has created tensions with Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
Now the EU’s top military official, Robert Brieger, says that it “would make a lot of sense” to place EU soldiers on the island, according to Reuters.
According to Brieger, Greenland’s geographic location is not only interesting for the United States, but also for other major powers.
– With increasing ice melting as a result of climate change, this also creates a certain potential for tensions with Russia and possibly China,” he says according to Reuters.
