He has difficulty standing and appears very weak. Raz Peri, 23, was injured on his way to the music festival near the border with Gaza, October 7. Around 6 a.m., when Hamas men burst into this musical meeting, he took refuge with others in a shelter. At the same time, a barrage of missiles marks the start of operation “Al-aqsa Flood”, carefully prepared by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.

More than a month after this trauma, his memories are a little confused. But he says he fought back and managed to escape. He still bears the scars of this violence today. “ I was shot in the stomach, shot in my back and I have grenade fragments in my leg. When I went outside to get help, what happened next in the shelter was that they fired RPGs, and the people who were in there died. I survived, I’m the only survivor “, he says.

“I’m sure it will be fine »

The young man appears very combative despite what he experienced on October 7, he who also suffers from cancer, he tells us. “ I have cancer. Why did I go to this festival? To feel good. I pray every day to dance again, it’s my dream. My dreams are focused on the future. What I wish for will come true”, confides the young man. And to add: “I’m sure it will be fine “.

Raz Peri still wants to believe in the positive values that the music festival conveyed. 260 people died during the Tribe of Nova festival, a must for the vibrant Israeli techno community, where more than 3,000 people participated on October 6 and 7. Nearly one in ten people never came back. And in total, nearly 1,200 people died on October 7 in Israel.
