Survival MMO with 47,000 players had to leave Steam because of a lawsuit, is now back and is starting tests

Myth of Empires was playable on Steam for a short time in 2021, then it disappeared. But the few days were enough to demonstrate great interest. The survival game is now available again on the platform and plans to launch its 1.0 release in February.

What kind of game is this?

  • Myth of Empires is a survival sandbox game that can be roughly described as Conan Exiles in ancient China.
  • The game offers siege battles, character progression, skills and talents and free development of the environment.
  • There are also strategy elements in the form of clans that fight each other and NPC companions that act as troops.
  • When can I play Myth of Empires? Anyone who already owns Myth of Empires can play now. It is in Early Access.

If you haven’t already bought the game through our own shop, you can no longer buy it at the moment. According to current information, the price is €30.

The team is currently planning a playtest that will run from January 23rd to 30th. You can register directly on Steam.

The 1.0 release is scheduled for February 5th. Additional features will come into play there, such as air combat using balloons and systems for city defense.

Legal dispute bans Myth of Empires from Steam for years

Myth of Empires has actually been on Steam since 2021 and has even received “mostly positive” reviews of 76% since then. At that time it was already able to attract over 36,000 players, at its peak even over 47,000 (via steamcharts).

However, shortly after its release in Early Access, there was a dispute with the makers of ARK: Survival Evolved. They accused the studio behind Myth of Empires of stealing source code.

As a result of the dispute, Myth of Empires was ultimately banned from Steam and could no longer be purchased and then no longer played there. The developers circumvented the ban with their own shop in early 2022.

However, the sandbox MMO has been available again on Steam for a few months now and is also offering the upcoming playtests there. In October 2023, the dispute was resolved and all parties jointly stated that they were working together on the release. We’ll check whether Myth of Empires can join our best survival games for PC, PS5 and Xbox.
