A new survival game on Steam promises a tough fight for survival and is already attracting players with an extensive demo. In the trailer, Soulmask shows its dangerous game world full of action-packed fights in advance.
What kind of game is this? Soulmask is an upcoming survival game that promises an “authentic survival experience.” Players should have to face the challenges of nature and fight not only against their own hunger and thirst, but also against the dangerous creatures that populate the world.
In typical survival style, players start with nothing and gradually craft weapons, build shelters and even build their own tribe.
Soulmask is scheduled to appear on Steam as early as 2024. The game can already be played now, because a demo version has been added to the Steam page for the upcoming Steam Next Fest. With a length of around 40 hours, the demo is larger than many full games.

What is the mood like? Potential players on YouTube were already impressed by the first images of the game. Under the announcement trailer for the demo, one user writes: “If you catch me in the first 15 seconds of a trailer, I’m in.” Another agrees: “I was wondering what the heck this person is talking about. 5 seconds later I see it exactly like that.” (via YouTube)
The first players seem to be quite positive so far. There is a lively exchange on the official Discord server and players offer each other advice and support. The fact that some features such as PvP servers are not yet included in the demo version is to be expected and is hardly a serious annoyance.
Is there also criticism? There are also negative voices. Some users criticize the use of artificial intelligence for the narrative voice in the trailer. In another version of the trailer with more than 275,000 views, players also note that the game probably still lacks fine-tuning and fears a long early access.
However, the developers will probably continue to work diligently on these points until the release.
In Soulmask, however, not only the fight against creatures, enemy tribes and marauders plays a role, but also against other players. PvP should be purely optional in the game. In the new survival hit from Germany, however, there should be no PvP at all – but even that doesn’t necessarily protect you from other players:
