SO Says Carolyn SIM.

The Enniskillen Township Woman’s Husband Dan Pelletier Died from His Injuries After Falling off a ladder at a job site in Owen Sound in 2007.

Sim, Happily Note, Said She Still Feels Pelletier’s Loss at Major Family Events, Anniversaries and Get-Togethers

“There’s Always that empty seat,” She Said.

Sim, Who’s Involved with Threads of Life, A National Charity Helping Families Affected by Workplace Fatalities, Life-Altering Injuries, and Occupational Diseases, is Sharing Her Story at This Year’s Fundraising Steps for Life 5k Walk in Canatara Park May 3.

Her Message, She Said, is to encourage people to speak up when they see co-workers Doing Something Unsafe.

“Let them Know you just want them to get Home,” She Said. “For me that’s so important to ensure that people get home safely to their families, Becuse that Hurt Never Goes Away.”

Last Year, About 95 Walkers Helped Raise Just Shy of $ 14,000 Towards Threads of Life Supports, Said Local Walk Organizer Mark Roehler.

That’s Down Slightly from About $ 17,500 Raised in 2023, he Said.

Hopes are for 100 walkers to help raise $ 15,000 in the 16th year for the local event that starts at 9 am with registration at the seaway kiwanis pavilion and include a silent auction, he said.

Most important is getting the word out, he said.

“I Still Run Into People This Day in Age that has no idea about Threads of Life,” or the Services It Offers for Families and Loved Ones Experiencing Tragedy, He Said.

“They need to understand that there is support out there,” he said.

Sim, who also spoke at a steps for life event in Sarnia in 2016, Said She’d Like to see Local Unions Get More Involved and Help Sponsor The Event and Cause.

“Just Supporting One Another and Making Sure That People Are… Getting Home Safely,” Said the Threads of Life Volunteer.

“It really does help family members that are new in their new normal, their day,” she Said about the supports offered.

People participating in the walk is also important, she said.

“For the families that are affected by workplace tragedy, It Really Helps Seeing Other People from the Community Join in and walk with them to let them know they are not.”
