There is still no end in sight to the war that has been going on since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a “special military operation” in a televised speech early in the morning of February 24 last year.
SVT’s foreign correspondent Carl Fridh Kleberg believes that the president and his closest circle are apparently convinced that the war is a kind of existential struggle, not only against Ukraine but against the Western world in general. It’s basically a point of view in Russia where you basically blame the West for most things you don’t like in the world.
– For Putin himself, much points to the fact that the conflict is absolutely decisive, in a situation where he has basically repositioned the entire Russian society for a war against Ukraine, and in a broader sense – the West.
