One of the biggest supermodels of the 1990s, Tatjana Patitz, has passed away. This is confirmed by her agent Corinne Nicolas.
Tatjana Patitz was born in 1966 in Germany and grew up in Skanör in Scania with her German father and Estonian mother, writes the fashion magazine Vogue.
In 1983, she came third in a modeling competition in Stockholm, which took her to Paris. She then pursued a career in California.
In the 1980s and 1990s, she graced covers alongside the elite group of supermodels that included, among others, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington. With them, she also appeared in George Michael’s music video for the song “Freedom! ’90”.
In addition, she was the favorite of fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh, and he photographed her for Vogue, among other things.
Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour says that Tatjana Patitz “was always the European symbol of chic. She was much less visible than her peers—more mysterious, more adult, more unattainable—and that had its own appeal.”
According to agent Corinne Nicolas, Patiz died as a result of “illness”, but the concrete cause of death has not been specified.
Tatjana Patitz was 56 years old.
