Sweden invited Switzerland.
Then Hanna Bennison stepped forward.
The super talent jumped in from the bench – and saved Blågult.
Sweden only got 1-1 in the premiere against the Netherlands and afterwards the Swedish players were self-critical towards the effort. A new formation, and Stina Blackstenius back in the starting eleven after getting to start on the side in the premiere.
Lost the lead
But the start against Switzerland left a lot to be desired, and a bit into the first half, Switzerland, who played 2-2 against Portugal in the premiere, thought they had been given a penalty. But the VAR room changed the referee’s decision, and 0-0 was the score at half time.
In the second half, Sweden finally got the dividend for their deep lead attempts, when Fridolina Rolfö ran free after a fine pass – and she made no mistakes alone against the goalkeeper. Sweden’s joy was short-lived, however, when Switzerland took advantage of the fact that Hedvig Lindahl did not get away with a post. In the right place at the right time was the superstar Ramona Bachmann, and Sweden was on the bridge.
Super talent hero
1-1 would mean real pressure for Sweden in the last group game against Portugal – but then Hanna Bennison stepped forward. Last year, the super talent born in 2002 was named the world’s greatest talent – and now she stepped forward when Sweden needed it most. She intercepted a ball just outside the penalty area, and pulled with her right foot – unreachable for the goalkeeper.
Sweden shortly afterwards had a ball in goal until 3-1, but it was ruled out for offside after VAR review. However, Sweden won the match after Bennison scored his very first national team goal – and now Sweden has a huge grip on advancing to the playoffs.
