SVT buys back the rights for the Olympics.
Starting with the Winter Olympics in Cortina 2026, the Olympic Games will once again be broadcast on Sweden’s Television channels.

We look forward to bringing Sweden together for many exciting and historic sporting moments in the future, says Hanna Stjärne, CEO of SVT.

The Olympic broadcasts are moving “home” to Sveriges Television again, the channel announced on Monday. The last time it happened was in 2012 during the Olympics in London, but now it’s time again after both Discovery and Viasat sat in on the broadcasts for the past 10 years.

“Unbelievable happy”

The first is the Winter Olympics in Cortina 2026, but then the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028, the Winter Olympics in 2030 (host country not clear) and the Summer Olympics in Brisbane in 2032 await.
– I am so incredibly happy that the Olympic broadcasts are moving home to SVT again. Starting in 2026, we invite everyone who wants to the big Olympic party on television, says Hanna StjärneCEO at SVT to SVT Sport.

The first time was in 1960, when the Swedish people could follow the Olympic Games on Sweden’s Television. More than 60 years later, it is clear that the time has come again.
– We always want to offer the Swedish people the best and widest in the way of sports, and what could be bigger and wider than an Olympics? We are extremely happy and humbled by what lies ahead, says Max Bursellinterim program director at SVT Sport.

Back after 14 years

Media Director Jan Helen he too is pleased that the rights for the Olympic Games have been brought back, and they look forward to uniting the audience with new magical sporting moments.
– I think that the sports movement, public service media and the audience longed for that community, the broad collective memories of magical moments that people historically created together in their countries. There has been a special relationship with the Olympic movement ever since the BBC made media history by broadcasting the Olympic Games live in London in 1948, says Helin.
