Elias Pettersson has completely evicted points lately.
Now he is being celebrated – with an insanely powerful award.
The Vancouver Canucks had a leaden year last year and were never close to playoff contention. However, Elias Pettersson had a great season and, for the first time in his NHL career, reached the magical milestone of one hundred points. And the hopes for the Swede were enormous ahead of this season.
Incredible week
So far, he has managed to surpass them all. The Vancouver Canucks have been the NHL’s biggest exclamation mark this winter and a lot can be thanked for Elias Pettersson. He has been one of the league’s absolute best players, and has shifted into another gear in recent weeks. Last week, the Canucks won four games out of a possible four.
And during the four games, Elias Pettersson scored a total of nine points. He also managed to score three completely match-deciding goals, in the away games against the New York Rangers, New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins. Elias Pettersson is now being rewarded with one of the NHL’s most powerful appointments.
Rewarded now
Every week, the NHL awards the three stars of the week, and for its huge success last week, “EP40” is now awarded the award as the best player in the entire NHL. The Swede has a total of 57 points in 43 games this season, and if he continues at the same pace, he will reach 109 points. And the success comes at the right time for Elias Pettersson, who is in the final year of his contract with the Canucks.
Elias Pettersson is expected to be one of the absolute best paid players in the entire league, and will thus follow in William Nylander’s footsteps. He recently received the highest-paid contract in Toronto Maple Leafs history, and there is little to suggest that Pettersson will receive a worse contract once he and the Canucks come to an agreement. However, many supporters are worried that the club and the player are not yet in agreement, but Pettersson’s agent has recently urged calm, and that they will sit down soon to negotiate.
