At the end of April, the film became the year’s first to bring in the equivalent of ten billion kroner globally. It is one of only ten animated films in history to sell for that much.
It is also the highest-grossing film ever for a film based on a video game.
The film follows Brooklyn brothers Mario and Luigi, played by Chris Pratt and Charlie Day.
It is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and is based on a screenplay by Matthew Fogel, who wrote both “The Lego Movie 2” and “Minions: The Story of Gru.”
