Video game adaptations have finally made it. At least that’s what the first figures for The Super Mario Bros. Movie indicate, which promise a bright future for the animated spectacle. Super Mario Bros. 2 seems only a matter of time.

Super Mario Bros. 2 is set to bring the video game favorite to the cinema

According to figures from the well-informed industry website Deadline, the film has already grossed 26 million US dollars in the first few days and is heading for an amazing result 127.5 million by the end of the week to. That puts it almost in line with the forecasts for Despicable Me 2, which eventually grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide in 2013 (via The Numbers).

Given this success, Super Mario Bros. 2 should already be in the towel. And fans can already look forward to a new addition from the video game template in the sequel. As a Super Mario Bros. post-credits scene reveals, the dino lizard Yoshi will most likely appear in the sequel.
