Sundsvall municipality reports itself to IVO – missed investigations for several years

The principle is that risks and deficiencies that are noticed must be dealt with immediately to avoid possible malpractices persisting or worsening so that users are harmed.

How many cases are involved and the degree of seriousness in them cannot be answered at the present time.

– We haven’t had time to delve into it ourselves. But we have drawn attention to the fact that there are shortcomings and it is serious, says Annika Eriksson who is chief of staff in the health and care administration.

Eight years without systematics

In the municipality of Sundsvall, it has now been discovered that reports of deviations have not been investigated in accordance with the current regulations, and it has been taking a long time. Eight years between 2015 and 2023.

It is a very long time – how could you not have discovered it earlier?

– That is a question we also want an answer to.

Large number of reports

It was all discovered during a recent inspection. It concerns “a large number of registered reports” sent by the head of the unit for further investigation. It is clear from the report.

Most of the reports have not been investigated, nor has an investigation been started.

Notification to IVO

At the beginning of April, Annika Eriksson, the chief of staff within the care and social care administration, sent a report to IVO, the Inspectorate for Care and Care. There it appears that the municipality itself considers that this is a serious misconduct.

– It may also be the case that there are cases that are handled correctly, but this is not evident from the deviation system we have.

Ultimately responsible for the activities is the care and social care board. The deficiencies were discovered by the administration’s quality controllers. These are new positions that have been created to strengthen the operations.
