Britain’s former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak has secured the support of 100 Tory MPs, and is thus the first to qualify to become the new party leader after Liz Truss.
There are a total of 357 conservative members in parliament, and thus a maximum of three party leader aspirants can reach the requirement of the 100 votes required to become relevant.
Sunak will automatically be named party leader and prime minister if no one else manages to reach 100.
