With the appearance of the first rays of summer sunshine, there is a great temptation to expose yourself to take on some color. But be careful, remind dermatologists, the June sun is particularly harmful to the skin.
Sun protection is often associated with the sea and swimming. And yet, ultraviolet rays are particularly harmful already in June.
Progressive exposure is recommended
In June, the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. This position makes ultraviolet rays particularly dangerous during this month. It is therefore recommended to stay in the shade as soon as possible, to cover your head in case of prolonged exposure and to use sunscreen. And in the event of exposure, doing it gradually remains preferable, underline the skin specialists.
A “Yellow June” operation launched by dermatologists
If it is essential to protect your skin, it is because too much sun exposure can lead to skin cancer. Dermatologists in Franche-Comté therefore want to raise awareness among the general public at all costs from June, by launching the “Yellow June” campaign.
“As soon as it is light outside, there are ultraviolet rays which are harmful. They are not blocked by clouds or the wind. On beautiful days like today, the sun is very dangerous“, explains to our colleagues from France Bleu Anne-Sophie Dupont, dermatologist at the Nord-Franche-Comté hospital and member of the association.
Contrary to popular belief, there is no real sunscreen, warns the association of dermatologists in its prevention campaign.
The most effective protection remains clothing: hats, long clothing or specific anti-UV clothing are recommended, for young and old alike. Sunscreen is used to protect areas that cannot be protected otherwise, such as the hands or the face, trying to expose it as little as possible directly to the sun and renewing its protection every two hours.
