summit on the Palestinian question in Cairo

31 countries and 3 international organizations will participate in the “Cairo Peace Summit” which is being held this Saturday, October 21 in Egypt to seek to remedy the Gaza crisis. A summit which should notably bring together the heavyweight leaders of the Arab world and the Mediterranean as well as representatives of the Security Council countries.

The priority objective sought by Egypt is to prevent an escalation of the war in Gaza and its transformation into a regional conflict. And to achieve this objective, Egypt wants to obtain the support of as many countries as possible to call for the conclusion of a truce between Israelis and Palestinians.

A truce which will allow humanitarian aid to reach the two million Gazans who lack everything today. The other objective is to relaunch the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians and to progress on the path to peace between two states.

Ambitious objectives on which it will be difficult to obtain consensus. Arabs and Muslim countries do not have the same vision of the situation as Western states. The former place the main blame on Israel and the latter on Palestinian Hamas.

Discussions are already underway to seek to overcome or reduce the differences.
