Summer self driving tour coming to Lambton County

Twenty different sites and attractions across Lambton County will be showcased June 4 as Tourism Sarnia-Lambton will be re-launching Unlock Lambton, a popular event celebrating National Tourism Week.

The event is a self-driving tour, where people can visit sites such as St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Sarnia, the Lorne C. Henderson Conservation Area and Sombra Museum with admission to these attractions free to the public for one day only, from 10 am to 4 pm

Families and individuals are encouraged to download the Unlock Lambton self-driving map (available at https://www.ontbluecoast.com/media/TSL-Unlock-Lambton-2022-1.pdf) and explore all that Lambton County has to offer.

Several of these cultural, historical and heritage sites have seen significant restoration and renovation work over the past two years, including Petrolia Discovery, Oil Museum of Canada and Forest’s iconic Kineto Theatre.

“Important restoration work has taken place at Petrolia’s Discovery’s historic oil field,” said Liz Welsh, vice chair of the Petrolia Discovery Foundation. “We are excited to be a stop on this year’s Unlock Lambton driving tour. New and returning visitors will experience our 1870s oil field in action.”

Visitors will also have the chance to win door prizes – they can simply fill out ballots at one of five Unlock Lambton locations (Moore Museum, Arts Council of East Lambton, Lambton Heritage Museum, Oil Museum of Canada and the Tourism Sarnia-Lambton office) for their chance to win.

Tourism Sarnia-Lambton’s product development coordinator Beverly Horodyski hopes that Lambton County residents will take advantage of this self-driving summer celebration.

“The driving tour is a great family friendly event, and some of the stops have introduced new interactive and fun exhibits for visitors to experience hands-on and up close,” she said.
