Although for many summer seems to have been particularly short this year, between the rain and the storms, it seems to want to extend beyond the month of August.
After a summer full of ups and downs, many people feel like summer never really arrived. But the good news is that the sun and the heat should succeed in chasing away this feeling, by extending the summer season a little longer in France. Although the week following the Olympic Games was also marked by the start of a less good weather, the week that opens the Paralympic events should, on the contrary, see the return of the anticyclone over a very large part of the country. In the northern half of the country, temperatures should rise from August 27 and could remain there for a while, according to meteorologists. They should even be accompanied by perfect sunshine.
For the moment, there is no indication that the return of the Azores high pressure area, which is still stationary in the Mediterranean basin, will be synonymous with the high temperatures that the country experienced during the first half of August. What is certain is that it should drive away the bad weather still present from Hauts-de-France to Nouvelle-Aquitaine. This could lead to a new episode of heat similar to that of last year at the same time. Even if at this time, the intensity and duration of these high temperatures are revised downwards compared to September 2023.
For this last week of August, we should therefore not expect to experience heat peaks of around 40°C locally, even if the thermometer will climb by 5 to 6 degrees. The highest temperatures should not exceed 36°C in the Mediterranean region. In the north, the mercury could peak around 30°C, particularly in Paris and Auxerre as well as on the north-eastern border. However, the cool weather should remain on the Atlantic coast, at least in the morning, despite temperatures rising from 11 to 17°C. France Weather does not exclude the arrival of rainy passages, particularly at the Italian border.
For the first week of September, the same story. “The majority of scenarios presented by weather models opt for the persistence of anticyclonic weather,” indicates The Weather Channel which predicts that summer weather will continue until September 5. The start of the school year on September 2 will also be marked by good weather, with minimum temperatures around 13 in the morning while in the afternoon, temperatures will reach up to 35°C in the hottest places. For spectators of the Paralympic Games and athletes, who will be at the event venues from August 28 to September 8, the sun should be there at least 3/4 of the time, as during the Olympic Games. A sign that it may have settled on the summer sporting events.
