Summer, autumn and winter during week 38

Summer, autumn and winter.
That’s what we can expect from the weather gods next week.
– We have real contrasts on Wednesday – zero degrees in the north and upwards of 20 degrees in the south, says TV4’s meteorologist Ulrika Elvgren.

The first snow looks set to arrive next week. At least in the north.

– We have seen some snow in the mountains earlier this month, but now it looks as if it will also snow east of the mountains over the northern hinterland of Norrland. The Gällivare region and Kiruna during Tuesday and Wednesday, says Ulrika Elvgren.

Already on Monday, the high pressure moves away and collides with a cold front, which can mean a lot of snow.

– It can evict. And snow cools snow so it can settle, even if it’s still warm in the ground, says Ulrika Elvgren.

“A little worrying”

And it looks like a rainy start to the week for the whole country. But the extreme amounts of rain stop in Norway, which is expected to receive 250 millimeters of rain in just one week.

– These are terrible amounts, it is half a bathtub per square meter, says the meterologist.

In some places in Sweden, we can expect up to 80 millimeters in a week. Normally, about 60 millimeters of rain falls – in a whole month.

– It is a little worrying considering that we received copious amounts of rain during storm Hans and August was also quite rainy.

The late summer heat is back

But after rain comes sunshine.

In the south, the late summer heat looks set to make a comeback in time for the end of the work week.

– Then the weather will be even warmer with upwards of 23, 24 degrees. So there are huge contrasts during this week, says Ulrika Elvgren.

During the weekend, deep low pressure approaches from the North Atlantic, influenced by tropical hurricanes. But whether the cold weather makes its way over Scandinavia or whether it stays out to sea is too early to say.
