Suggestion: Limit advertising for useless food in social media

On behalf of the government, the National Food Agency and the Public Health Authority have investigated how to promote healthy food consumption in children and young people.

According to the report, more and more children and young people in Sweden are affected by health problems such as obesity, diabetes and dental problems as a result of the unhealthy food they consume.

– Health problems in childhood can remain in adulthood. It is important to promote good eating habits for children, says the Director General of the Public Health Authority Olivia Wigzell in a press release.

Limit advertising for useless food in social media

The National Food Agency and the Public Health Authority have therefore presented a number of measures to tackle the problems and promote a healthier lifestyle in children and young people.

The investigation proposes, among other things, to limit advertising of useless food in social media, as they believe that it contributes to worse eating habits in children and young people.

They also want to ensure that tax -financed meals that children and young people consume become more nutritious and healthy.

– In Sweden, we have come a long way with our school food, which means a nutritious meal for all children attending elementary school. But there is potential for developing other meals within the school, as well as the food environment for children and young people in other tax -financed environments, says the Swedish Food Agency’s Director General Annica Sohlström.

The authorities have handed over the report to the government.
