Sufian is inside her apartment for the first time since the earthquake. He picks up some still unused clothes for his newborn son. Little Haroon was hospitalized for fluid in his lungs when the earthquake happened. – The fifth day was the last time I saw him. He was better, had less fluid in his body. I was with him in the evening and the next day the earthquake came, says father of five Sufian Khattaab. Made a search As soon as Sufian got his other five children to safety, he and his wife Lamis went to the hospital to make sure their then six-day-old son was OK. But he was not there and they were told that Haroon had been transferred to a hospital in the city of Adana. Five times he went to Adana and Mersin and asked for his son in all state hospitals. At the social welfare office he made a search. Half an hour later they called and asked him to provide a blood sample and DNA. Children without identity After the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, hundreds of injured children came to the hospitals without identity. At the same time, there were many warnings about kidnappings and that cults were trying to take the children. And although many children have since been able to be reunited with their rightful families, through DNA testing, the horror has spread. The Sufi desperately hopes that his son has not been hurt, but is in some hospital somewhere. While they wait to receive the DNA results, they prepare for their son and cling to hope.
