The population of war-torn Sudan is “trapped in an inferno of brutal violence”, warns Clementine Nkweta-Salami, the UN’s coordinator for humanitarian efforts in the country, at a press conference on Wednesday.
– The famine is approaching. Diseases are approaching. The battles are getting closer and there is no end in sight, she says.
The fighting that broke out in 2023 has led to thousands of deaths, displaced around eight million and created an unsustainable humanitarian situation.
