Sudan says UN envoy Volker Perthes is no longer welcome in the country.

“The Government of Sudan has notified the UN Secretary-General that, as of today, it has declared Mr. Volker Perthes persona non grata,” the State Department said in a statement on Thursday.

Recently, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who heads the country’s army and effectively the country, accused Perthes of fueling the conflict in the country and called for his expulsion.

Fighting between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, has been ongoing since mid-April.
