Sudan calls for emergency UN Security Council session claims

Tens of thousands of people have died in the civil war in Sudan.

Sudan has demanded that the UN Security Council convene for an emergency session as soon as possible. The reason is Sudan’s claims that the UAE has been supporting the Sudanese paramilitary RSF.

According to Sudan’s UN ambassador, the United Arab Emirates has supported the forces with weapons, among other things.

In its response to the Security Council, the United Arab Emirates denied Sudan’s accusations.

The civil war broke out in Sudan in April last year, when the commander of the armed forces by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy, Gen Mohamed Hamdan Daglon disagreements about the integration of the RSF forces commanded by Daglo into the Sudanese armed forces escalated.

The Security Council took a separate, concerned stance on the fighting in North Darfur earlier on Saturday. The council warned that the RSF and its allies could launch a large-scale attack on the town of al-Fashir. A large number of refugees have headed to the city to seek refuge, and an attack on the city can UN Secretary General by António Guterres according to the spokesman, to be extremely destructive to civilians.

WFP: Widespread hunger disaster threatens

Tens of thousands of people have died in the war and the fighting has driven around 8.5 million people from their homes. The World Food Program (WFP) under the UN has warned that the country is threatened by a widespread hunger disaster.

According to the WFP, 90 percent of the Sudanese who are threatened by famine are currently beyond the reach of the world organization’s aid. According to WFP’s estimate, only five percent of the country’s inhabitants are able to get themselves some kind of meal every day.
