The Swedish amateur went the first round of 65 shots, seven under par, in the star-studded European Tour competition and was thus the best of all golfers together with the Englishman Ian Poulter.
Åberg was one stroke ahead of, among others, world number one Rory McIlroy after round one.
Parts of Thursday’s play were postponed due to rain and therefore Åberg had to go out on the course again on Friday shortly after playing the first 18 holes.
Alexander Björk and Jens Dantorp, with 69 shots, were the second best of the blue and yellow players in the starting field after the first round. Henrik Stenson went around in 70 strokes.
The second round is underway.
