Seeliger has won everything he entered individually during the WC in Valhalla and finished with three golds on Sunday, two individually and one as a team.
In the final of the 100 meter freestyle, Björn Seeliger won in a time of 46.37, which is the world’s second fastest time this year at the distance. In terms of Swedish swimming history, the time is also the second best ever in short course. Only Stefan Nystrand has swum faster with his Swedish record, 45.54 from 2009.
– I swam well this week and it felt better every day. I have worked a lot on freestyle swimming in particular and I am looking forward to the long track season, writes Björn Seeliger in a text message to SVT Sport.
Swedish record
The second finish of the evening for the 23-year-old came just 30 minutes after the final of the 100 freestyle. Seeliger then put his hand on the plate as gold medalist in the 50 meter backstroke with a new Swedish record, 23.17. A drop of 40 hundredths off his previous record set in the opening leg of the team 4x50m medley on Friday.
Not swimming EC
Björn Seeliger swam the WC in Fukuoka this summer but will not swim the short course EC in Romania in December. This week, major competitions await in Minnesota, USA, for Seeliger, who on a regular basis studies at the University of California in Berkley, San Francisco.
The Swedish national team swimmer ended his SC and the lightning visit to Sweden by also winning SC gold in the team race 4×100 meters medley with Swimming Club Neptun, which also topped the points total among the clubs on the senior side.
– It has been a fantastic trip home for a short time to compete at the SM, a competition that gives me a lot of joy. Above all, you meet people you grew up with and coaches who have been with you all the way, writes Björn Seeliger.
