Substitute teacher recreated the murder of George Floyd through students

The high school in Minnesota has now banned the police from working as substitute teachers after a series of “racially harmful” acts.

On Monday when the man was substituting in English, he placed a student on the ground in front of the class – recreating the same restraint used by police when George Floyd was killed in May 2020, AP writes.

“The substitute teacher is accused of twisting a student’s arm behind his back, pretending to point a gun at students and making inappropriate comments to students,” writes principal Sarah Sorenson-Wagner in an email to parents, students and staff.

In addition to re-enacting the actions that led to Floyd’s death, the students also complained that the substitute teacher repeatedly made racially damaging comments, made sexist jokes and spoke in disturbing detail about dead bodies he had seen.

He said police officers would make the best criminals because “they know how to get away with things” and stated that police brutality is not real, according to the email.

Students reported the substitute teacher’s actions and the man has now been banned from setting foot in the school.

“This behavior is appalling. I am ashamed and I am sorry that this happened to our students” writes the principal in the principal.
