Substantially reduced sentences for the Swedes accused of murder in Spain

The case concerns the murders of two drug traffickers in 2018. Last week’s admissions came as a surprise after a long period of denial. Prosecutors sought life imprisonment for the four ringleaders at the start of the trial, but after reaching a plea deal, they received greatly reduced sentences for their confessions.

One step remains in the trial, which is for the jury to decide if they are actually guilty or not and if they are thus sentenced to the new shortened sentences that the prosecutor is demanding, writes El Pais.

The man whom the Spanish police have identified as the leader of the group has an arrest warrant from the Swedish police for drug offences. His sentence in the Spanish trial lands at two years ten months and one day. Since he was already arrested in 2020 and has served that time, he will soon be handed over to Sweden in principle immediately after the verdict.
