Lithuania declared the Russian diplomat persona non grata. In the statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, it was reported that a representative from the Russian Embassy in Vilnius was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a diplomat working in the Russian Embassy was declared persona non grata “due to activities incompatible with his diplomatic status”.
GIVEN FOR 5 DAYS
In the statement, it was stated that the Russian diplomat in question was given 5 days to leave the country. It is the fourth time that Russian diplomats have been expelled from Lithuania since February 24, when Russia’s attacks on Ukraine began.
After the discovery of mass graves and the dead bodies of people shot at close range in the Ukrainian town of Bucha, which was cleared of the Russian army last April, Lithuania decided to drop its diplomatic representation ties with Russia and asked the Russian Ambassador Alexey Isakov to leave the country.
Lithuania also decided to close the Russian consulate in Klaipeda. Last March, Lithuania expelled 4 Russian diplomats to show its solidarity with Ukraine.
Last October, Lithuania announced that it had expelled Russia’s interim Charge d’Affaires, Sergey Ryabokon, for actions and statements incompatible with his diplomat status.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mantas Adomenas stated that he was deported in response to his statements downplaying the events of January 13, 1991 in Ryabokon. (UAV)
