Before the Asian visit of US President Joe Biden, a striking claim came from Japan. It has been suggested that North Korea, which continues its missile tests, may conduct a new missile test during the US President Biden’s visit to Tokyo and Seoul.
STUNNING CLAIM FROM THE MINISTER OF DEFENSE
Japanese Defense Minister Kishi Nobuo said at a press conference that North Korea could launch an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in the days to coincide with the US President’s visit to Asia.
Reminding that North Korea has carried out missile tests 15 times since the beginning of the year, Person Nobuo noted that “if (Pyongyang) completes its preparations, it can increase its provocative activities, including the possibility of long-range missile tests.”
Noting that the Pyongyang administration aims to “continue its weapons development program”, Kisi Nobuo stated that his country will carry out its activities in the region, including possible trials, in cooperation with the United States.
Kyodo agency reported that North Korea tried ICBMs for the first time since November 2017, the previous month.
BIDEN TO VISIT SOUTH KOREA AND JAPAN
On the other hand, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced during Biden’s visit to Asia that North Korea could conduct long-range ballistic missile and nuclear tests.
Biden is expected to visit South Korea and Japan on May 20-25, and attend the Quad Leaders Summit to be held in Tokyo on May 24.
“DEMOCRACY SPRING”
Known as the Quadruple Security Dialogue (QSD) or “Quad”, the dialogue forum launched in 2007 between the USA, Australia, India and Japan was transformed into the “quad alliance” in 2017.
Known as the informal strategic forum against China and described as the “arc of democracy in Asia”, the alliance holds, in part, regular meetings and exchanges information.
