Nova Vita, which provides shelter and support to victims of intimate partner violence, is in need of many items including new pillows, diaper wipes, face wash, baby lotion, conditioner, deodorant, diapers size three to six and pull-ups.
Brantford city council on Tuesday endorsed a proclamation declaring November as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the city.
Council also passed a resolution on Tuesday calling for intimate and gender-based violence an epidemic. Figures provided to counselors earlier this month showed the number of victims of intimate partner violence has almost doubled in the last 10 years.
Representatives of Victims Services of Brant told council that it has 258 victims of intimate partner violence in 2012-2013. That number rose to 591 in 2022-23.
