Studyfluencers study 14 hours a day: “Crazy”

The studyfluencer phenomenon originally comes from South Korea. Primary school pupils and university students make content about how they study and how much time they spend on studies – time that can often correspond to all the waking hours of the day.

In Britain, where there is fierce competition for places at the country’s best universities with students from all over the world – and where study places may be reduced due to the universities’ poor finances, the genre has been further popularized.

“Strong pressure”

According to Hossein Fateh, a dental student in Manchester, there is a need, especially among students who are going to apply to university, to get information about how the application process works and how to best stand out in the competition.

– I myself felt strong pressure in primary school and if it weren’t for the fact that my sister was already at university, I wouldn’t have had a clue, he says.

High demands on the applications

The preparations for university studies in Great Britain look different than in Sweden. To enter Hossein Fateh’s dental program, it is, for example, meritorious to have experience of the profession even before the training begins, through practice.

– Some primary schools help with such things, the school I went to didn’t have the opportunity to do that. The resources simply weren’t there. But I still managed to get in and now I tell others how I managed to get here, he says.

Davina Nalwadda is a law student in Birmingham and makes social media content about her studies for a similar audience.

– I often get questions about how I went about getting here. I offer a platform for people who want to know what opportunities exist and how to push yourself to reach your goals, she says.
