A nonpartisan group investigating the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said Monday it had found some problems with impartiality but no evidence of terrorism.

UNRWA remains irreplaceable and necessary for Palestinian human and economic development, says French diplomat Catherine Colonna in a report prepared under the management.

The research group was created after Israel claimed in January that some UNRWA workers had participated in an attack by the extremist organization Hamas on Israel in October 2023. After that, several donor countries suspended funding to the organization.

Colonna’s team had to assess whether UNRWA was doing everything to ensure impartiality. of the UN Secretary General by António Guterres launched another investigation into Israel’s allegations.

According to the group, there are problems related to impartiality in the biased political messages published by UNRWA employees on social media. In addition, some UNRWA schools were using a small number of textbooks with problematic content.

But Israel, according to the investigation, has yet to provide evidence to support its claim that UNRWA employs more than 400 terrorists.

According to Colonna, it is being improved, which needs to be improved.

– I am sure that these actions will help UNRWA fulfill its mandate. I would encourage the international community to stand by the organization so that it can fulfill its mission, Colonna said.

Guterres accepts the recommendations made in the Colonna report, said Guterres’ spokesman.
