STUDIO DN
Then a false majority squashed the government budget
We are recording this episode on Monday afternoon. What has happened today?
– The government did not have support for its spring budget and it looked this morning as if they had obtained it. Because then they made a compromise proposal with the Center Party who went out and said “we support”. And then another hour passed. So it turns out that this proposal was lowered by the right-wing opposition, which has a false majority, as it is called, in the Finance Committee. And now it is very unclear what the Riksdag will actually vote on this Wednesday. We do not know how much money Swedish pensioners will receive, or what budget will win, says Ewa Stenberg in Studio DN.
After last week’s attention-grabbing no-confidence vote on Minister of Justice and Home Affairs Morgan Johansson, it is time for the Riksdag to vote on the spring amendment budget. What’s at stake this week?
– It is Swedish pensions, among other things, that are in the pot in this new and rather chaotic week. On Wednesday afternoon, the government will club the changes in this year’s budget. This year, there are quite a few changes that are there. But we do not know if it will be the proposals of the Moderates, the Sweden Democrats, the Liberals and the Christian Democrats that go through, or if the government succeeds in drumming up support for its spring change budget. There are also two political savages involved here who could possibly decide the matter.
