Students looking for housing at the last moment – risk being left without one

The interest in studying at the University of Jönköping is greater this year than before. A total of 7,162 people have been admitted to this autumn’s courses, but several of the courses take place remotely and it is also not clear how many will accept their place.

Before the summer, the municipal housing company Vätterhem had upwards of 350 vacant student apartments in Jönköping, above all in Råslätt. Currently, there are only 35 left.

– That is why I really want to convey that you are active and looking for housing. Unfortunately, I think that many people celebrate without thinking too much about how to live, says Raymond Paskal, CEO of Vätterhem.

One hundred more applicants for the autumn term

Admissions to higher education programs are increasing in several places – a total of 33 out of 39 universities and colleges are taking in more applicants compared to autumn 2023, according to figures from the University and Higher Education Council. In Jönköping, there are just over 100 more accepted than the autumn semester 2023, a total of 7,162.

According to studbo.se, which is the housing site that Jönköping University and Jönköping municipality refer to, there are currently student apartments at Gräshagen, Ryhov and Liljeholmen in Jönköping, but several people are queuing for several of the properties.

In the clip, Raymond Paska tells why it is so important to be active in your search for housing.
