In September 2015, the basic grant was abolished and the loan system was introduced for all HBO and WO students. This allowed students to borrow money at a relatively low interest rate.
Depending on the repayment rules, which have different categories, the repayment phase lasts 15 or 35 years.
The supplementary grant was retained in the loan system. This scholarship is intended for students whose parents have little or no contribution to their child’s education.
Students who are already entitled to a supplementary grant will therefore keep it. The supplementary grant currently amounts to a maximum of 416 euros per month.
