Traffic was brought to a standstill in central Belgrade as students camped out near the government headquarters on Friday. They launched a 24-hour blockade in protest against what they believe to be fraud in the Serbian elections on 17 December.

The blockade will last until Saturday’s planned demonstrations, which are expected to gather thousands of participants.

Daily protests have been ongoing since the election, in which incumbent President Aleksandar Vucic declared victory for his party, the right-wing populist SNS. The opposition claims that electoral fraud occurred, particularly in the capital Belgrade.
