Strongholds are an important mechanic in Diablo 4

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

In Diablo 4, strongholds are an important mechanic that should help you in your journeys through Sanctuary. We’ll show you how they work and what else you should know about these strongholds of evil.

What are strong holds? Diablo 4 will offer you Strongholds so-called “Fortresses”. These Strongholds are a type of open world dungeons that have been taken over by the forces of evil. Once you’ve spotted one of these strongholds, it’s your job in squads or solo to cleanse them, transforming them from battlefield into a social place for you and your teammates.

We now go into more detail about the strongholds and show you how to find them and why they are worthwhile.

Strongholds are hidden and can be found

Where can you find strongholds? Strongholds of Evil are not displayed on your map or in the form of quests. You must awaken your spirit of discovery and explore the surrounding areas in Sanctuary. Should you come close to a stronghold, it will be marked on your mini-map with a red skull and crossbones.

How do strong holds work? Once you have discovered one of these fortresses, you must cleanse them of evil.

  • So you kill smaller minions
  • Opens passages
  • Look for good loot
  • At the end you will come to a special boss that you have to defeat. Once you have done all this, this instance is considered to have been activated successfully. As a reward you will then get:

  • New items such as armor and weapons
  • Renown Points (points applicable to the corresponding territory)
  • XP
  • gold
  • Basically, these are areas that humans fled when the demons took over. If you purify these, people will return and support you on your journeys.

Are strong holds worth it? Definitely, because each completed Stronghold automatically turns into a social place. In this you can then meet other players, NPCs and traders who want to repopulate this place.

In addition, new dungeons appear in your area, which you cannot discover without liberating the fortress.

Can I tackle any strong hold immediately? As eager as you are to discover, you cannot complete every Stronghold that quickly. Each has its own difficulty level, and while the developers say you can try your luck, you’ll soon find out that the demons will shred you.

So it’s wise to level up first and bring good gear before facing a horde of overpowered demons. So if you are too weak, you can clean the stronghold at a later point in time. And don’t worry, the strongholds are private for each player, nobody can complete your stronghold. You have to do that yourself.

What do you think of the Strongholds? Do you think they’re cool and do you think the new system is exciting? Let us know what you think about it in the comments!
